Lancement du pompage des eaux de la nappe phréatique » Adjermaïa » vers la ville de Tiaret
Summary of the Water Pumping Operation in Tiaret
On Wednesday, a significant water pumping operation commenced to transport groundwater from the Adjermaïa aquifer to Tiaret, spanning 127 km. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the city’s potable water supply.
Project Overview
Mohssen Gharib Dia, the General Inspector of the Ministry of Water Resources, supervised the start of this initiative from two reservoirs located in the Zemala Emir Abdelkader municipality, situated within the Ksar Chellala delegated wilaya. He confirmed that following the completion of technical testing, actual water pumping has begun, which will soon lead to water availability for residents. Concurrently, the technical teams are monitoring the infrastructure to ensure operational efficiency.
According to Gharib Dia, the project’s benefits will soon be evident in Tiaret and nearby regions, thanks to the efforts of state-owned companies involved in its execution. He emphasized the supportive role of local authorities that facilitated this project, which was mandated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Historical Context
The Adjermaïa project, ordered by President Tebboune during a ministers’ council on June 2, 2024, aims to supply Tiaret and ten eastern municipalities with drinking water sourced from 19 deep wells in the Adjermaïa aquifer. The construction and operational phases have been closely monitored to meet the area’s needs effectively.
Supplementary Water Supply
While the full supply from the Adjermaïa aquifer is being established, the Ministry of Water Resources has given permission to draw an additional 15,000 cubic meters from the Bekhadda dam. This increases the available water volume to 25,000 cubic meters, ensuring that citizens have adequate water resources, particularly during the upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations.
Local Authority Support
Saïd Khalil, the wali (governor) of Tiaret, praised this essential development, highlighting it as a result of local expertise and a solution to the existing water shortages in various regions. He noted that this project is part of a larger series of initiatives, including well drilling, improvement of pumping stations, and renewal of water networks. Anticipated future plans also involve utilizing desalinated seawater to enhance water availability.
Development Projects Announcement
Additionally, symbolic service orders were presented outside the Ksar Chellala delegated wilaya for various development projects, which will focus on urban planning, road construction, public lighting, and beautification efforts. These projects are set to be financed with a budget of approximately 6 billion dinars, sourced from the economic and social development support program and the Local Communities Guarantee and Solidarity Fund for the current year.
This expansive initiative reflects Algeria’s ongoing commitment to improving water resource management and infrastructure development, ensuring that both urban and rural communities have improved access to essential services.
