On Monday, Algeria inaugurated national research projects under the Arab Alliances for Scientific Research and Innovation initiative. This platform aims to address common scientific challenges faced by Arab nations.
Mohamed Bouhicha, the Director General of Scientific Research and Technological Development at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the significance of this scientific event. He described it as a collective effort to establish a unified Arab scientific community rooted in solidarity and collaboration, aimed at generating innovative solutions for ongoing developmental challenges. He asserted that innovation thrives in an environment characterized by cooperation and sharing of expertise.
Bouhicha expressed pride in Algeria’s role and its institutions’ contributions to this pioneering initiative, which seeks to address shared issues across Arab countries. His remarks highlighted the ministry’s commitment to enhancing the research environment, promoting inter-Arab cooperation, and serving the interests of the Arab peoples and future generations.
Abdelmadjid Ben Amara, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Scientific and Research Councils (UCARS), noted that this event marks a foundational step toward scientific collaboration among Arab nations. He pointed out that UCARS aims to establish a unifying platform to energize cooperation among Arab researchers and institutions, creating impactful knowledge and leveraging shared human and financial resources.
During the event, Ben Amara announced the launch of a second initiative before the end of the year and encouraged Algerian researchers to actively participate.
The research projects submitted by Algeria encompass vital sectors such as agriculture, technology, energy, and health. Key themes include "Secure and Rapid AI Systems," "Bioplastic Development and Application," and "Introducing Intermediate Fluid Technology into National Economic Sectors and Pharmaceutical Industries."
