Summary of NAAMA’s Green Dam Rehabilitation Projects

Recently, multiple initiatives have been launched to implement the Green Dam revitalization program in the Naâma region, as reported by forest conservation authorities.

Key Projects and Operations

This phase of the program focuses on several important operations aimed at enhancing local ecological and economic conditions:

  1. Pastoral Reserves: Establishment of a 400-hectare pastoral reserve supported by extensive plantings.
  2. Green Belts: Creation of green belts covering 18 hectares, contributing to the overall environmental quality.
  3. Solar Energy Initiatives: Distribution of 57 solar energy units, which signifies a shift towards sustainable energy solutions.
  4. Water Resources: Drilling of two deep wells and constructing two solar-powered water reservoirs, ensuring efficient water management in the area.

Agricultural Development

Additionally, approximately 74 hectares within the Green Dam area are being allocated for the cultivation of drought-resistant fruit trees. These lands are specifically designated for recent university graduates and vocational training center alumni, providing them with the opportunity to engage in agriculture.

Educational and Economic Collaboration

In a collaborative effort, forest conservationists are working with the "Salhi Ahmed" University’s Department of Natural Sciences to train students through an “Entrepreneurship House.” This initiative aims to foster startup companies focused on reforestation, irrigation, and monitoring, utilizing modern scientific techniques to further the Green Dam objectives.

Environmental and Economic Impact

The broader revival program is expected to bring significant environmental and economic benefits, including the expansion of fruit tree plantations over 400 hectares in Naâma and the addition of at least 1,000 more hectares of pastoral land by year-end, as noted by forest authorities.

Overview of the Green Dam

The Green Dam in Naâma covers more than 173,352 hectares across six municipalities, accounting for 6% of the region’s total area and 2.5% of the nationwide Green Dam expanse. This illustrates the program’s extensive reach and potential for regional enhancement.

Conclusion

The ongoing projects in the Naâma region reflect a comprehensive strategy aimed at environmental restoration and economic growth, spotlighting the importance of sustainable practices and youth engagement in agriculture.

This new chapter for the Green Dam program not only addresses immediate environmental challenges but also aims to instill a culture of sustainability and innovation among the younger population, ultimately contributing to a greener future for the region.
