Coup d’envoi de la 10e édition de l’Olympiade algérienne des mathématiques 2025

On Tuesday, the Minister of National Education, Mohammed Seghir Sadaoui, launched the 10th edition of the Algerian Mathematics Olympiad 2025 at the Mohand-Mokhbi Mathematics Lyceum in Kouba (Algiers). This initiative aims to select the country’s top educational talent to represent Algeria in regional, continental, and international mathematics competitions.

In his statement to the press, Minister Sadaoui emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring the success of this Olympiad edition by providing the necessary support to participating students, including tailored training and mentorship. The aim is for these students to proudly represent Algeria on the competitive mathematics stage, as has been done in previous years. The competition is being held in all public and private educational institutions, as well as at the Cadets of the Nation schools, to identify and nurture talents who can enhance Algeria’s reputation in mathematics.

Sadaoui announced that the exam papers’ correction would take place the following day, Wednesday, with results sent to the Ministry’s Specialized Education Directorate. After identifying the winners, a training phase will commence, supervised by inspectors and specialized teachers from both the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This training is designed to equip the selected students with the skills needed to excel in regional and international competitions, thereby improving Algeria’s standing in these events.

During his address, the minister took the opportunity to commend the educational community for its efforts to ensure a successful second trimester of the academic year. Noting the importance of this pedagogical phase, he stressed the need to motivate students to achieve strong results. He believes that the exam period serves as a crucial opportunity to identify existing competencies and form an elite group of students upon whom the country can rely.

To support students preparing for official examinations, Sadaoui announced that educational institutions would remain open during the spring break, offering additional tutoring sessions. He also highlighted the completion of administrative and pedagogical processes related to the second trimester, including the recording of grades, exam corrections, and the presentation of model answers. He praised the Ministry’s Information Systems Directorate for facilitating digitization in education, which allows parents to access their children’s report cards through a dedicated online platform.

The first elimination round of this second edition of the Algerian Mathematics Olympiad is specifically designed for students demonstrating exceptional mathematical ability—those achieving a score of 17 or higher out of 20 during the first trimester, particularly from 3rd and 4th grade of middle school, 1st year of secondary education (common sciences and technology branch), and 2nd and 3rd years of secondary education in mathematics, math-tech, and experimental sciences tracks.

Algeria’s past performance in mathematics competitions has been commendable, particularly noted during the 65th International Mathematics Olympiad held in the UK last July. Algeria secured a gold medal and was distinguished as the only Arab and African nation to win a medal at the event, while the other members of the Algerian team received honorable mentions.

In summary, the 10th edition of the Algerian Mathematics Olympiad is a significant educational initiative aimed at harnessing and showcasing the mathematical talent of Algerian students. The ministry’s structured support and encouragement for participants illustrate a broader commitment to enhancing the nation’s academic stature on international platforms. The event also symbolizes an ongoing effort to motivate and uplift students during a crucial academic period, with a vision towards building an elite group of mathematicians who can carry the Algerian flag in future competitions.
