Algeria Commemorates Shuhada: Celebrating the Legacy of Martyrs and the Path to Progress Under President Tebboune

On Thursday in Algiers, Laïd Rebiga, the Minister of Mujahideen and War Veterans, emphasized Algeria’s unwavering commitment to honor its fallen heroes under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s guidance. Speaking at a conference at the National Circle of the Army in Beni Messous, Rebiga commemorated the 65th anniversary of the deaths of martyrs Colonel Lotfi and Commander Faradj, as well as the 66th anniversary of the deaths of Col. Si-El Haoues and Amirouche. He stated that Algeria is on a path to victory by staying true to the promises made to the brave shuhada (martyrs) and the enduring message of November 1, 1954, which marked the beginning of the national liberation revolution.

The minister highlighted that these leaders—Colonel Lotfi, Commander Faradj, Colonel Si-El Haoues, and Colonel Amirouche—were essential figures in the revolutionary struggle for Algeria’s liberation and sovereignty. He stressed that these martyrs are remembered each year, especially in March, as the Algerian people honor the memory of their glorious shuhada.

Rebiga noted that Amirouche and Si-El Haoues were pivotal national liberation figures who played significant roles in strengthening the revolution. He hailed them as extraordinary heroes who sacrificed their lives for Algeria. He also acknowledged Colonel Lotfi and Commander Faradj as outstanding vanguard leaders and role models for Algeria’s youth. He called on today’s generations to follow in their footsteps and learn from their experiences to meet contemporary challenges, while recognizing the sacrifices made by those who fought for independence and freedom.

Moreover, the minister praised the efforts of the People’s National Army (ANP), the worthy successor of the National Liberation Army (ALN), for its commitment to securing Algeria’s borders, defending its sovereignty, and preserving the integrity and unity of the nation.

The conference also recognized the families of the aforementioned martyrs, featuring presentations that highlighted their life stories and contributions. Notably, Mujahida Fatima Méchiche, the widow of Colonel Lotfi, along with Fatima Bouammama and Yamina Chiali from the historic Wilaya V, shared personal testimonies about their struggles for freedom and independence.

In addition, prominent figures such as the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, and the Minister of Religious Affairs and Awqaf, Youcef Belmehdi, were present, alongside numerous national representatives, members of the revolutionary family organizations, civil society, and veterans.

This commemoration not only serves as a reminder of Algeria’s rich history of resistance and the sacrifices made for independence but also acts as a call to current and future generations to honor these contributions and continue striving for a prosperous future for the country. By remaining united and committed to the legacy of the shuhada, Algeria can face modern challenges with determination and resilience, echoing the spirit of sacrifice that has characterized its past.

In summary, the event exemplified Algeria’s dedication to preserving its history, promoting national unity, and inspiring future generations to uphold the ideals of those who fought for the nation’s freedom. As Algeria moves forward, it remains crucial to remember and honor the sacrifices made by the shuhada, ensuring that their legacy continues to illuminate the path toward national development and unity.
