The Algerian national athletics team triumphed at the 24th edition of the Arab Athletics Championship, which concluded on Sunday at the Miloud Hadefi Olympic Stadium in Oran. The team secured a remarkable total of 53 medals: 18 gold, 17 silver, and 18 bronze, solidifying their dominance in the region.

From the first day of competition, Algerian athletes showcased their talent by excelling in various events. This strong performance continued until the final day of the championships. On the last day alone, they amassed 16 medals: 7 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze.

Among the standout performances on Sunday, notable gold medalists included Ouanis Chaima in the 400m hurdles, Chentif Haithem in the 800m, and Hocine Tarek in long jump. The men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams also contributed to the gold medal tally. Silver medals were achieved by Karkas Wissal in triple jump, Reffas Abid in the women’s 1500m, Lamraoui Louai in the men’s long jump, and Boudjeltia Zakaria in the 5000m. The bronze medals were claimed by Benkaci Manel in the 200m for women, Houma Sarah in the women’s 400m hurdles, Ouaba Leiticia in women’s triple jump, Benyache Adem in the men’s 200m, and Boukhamouche Saber in the men’s 400m hurdles.

National coach Othmane Habib noted the elevated level of competition this year compared to previous editions, particularly in sprint events where Algerian athletes delivered impressive times nearing world-class performances. His satisfaction with the athletes’ achievements suggests promising prospects for their future on the international stage.

This Arab Athletics Championship, organized by the Algerian Athletics Federation in collaboration with the Arab Athletics Union, hosted 160 athletes from 12 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Jordan, Djibouti, Tunisia, and Algeria as the host nation.

Overall, Algeria’s performance at the championship not only highlights their athletic prowess but also sets the stage for future success in international competitions.
