On Friday, during the opening address of the 22nd General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ACNOA) held at the International Conference Center "Abdelatif-Rahal" in Algiers, Algerian Sports Minister Walid Sadi expressed the nation’s pride in being part of Africa and reaffirmed its dedication to the Olympic movement, emphasizing the promotion of Olympic Charter values.
Sadi welcomed representatives from 54 ACNOA member countries, International Olympic Committee (IOC) members, and distinguished guests, highlighting Algeria’s pivotal role in upholding the Charter’s principles. “My presence among you today signifies our support for the noble message of the Olympic movement,” he stated, aiming to enhance the values inherent in the Olympic Charter across the diverse and historically rich African continent.
He noted Africa’s dynamic development in various sectors attributable to the awareness and commitment of its citizens. Sadi emphasized the need for cohesive efforts to tackle contemporary challenges while fostering a professional spirit rooted in science, technology, talent, creativity, and innovation.
The Minister discussed Algeria’s commitment to fostering sports throughout the country as a fundamental human right, aligned with Olympic Charter principles. He pointed out that the development of sports is a primary concern for Algeria’s leadership, highlighting the ongoing support from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who closely monitors the progress of the country’s sports initiatives. This includes enhancing opportunities for youth to showcase their talents through the promotion of sports in schools, universities, and vocational training institutions.
Moreover, Sadi underlined the urgency of increasing programs and projects dedicated to building sports infrastructure that meets international standards, which serves the youth and broader sporting community. He called on the sports community to intensify its commitment, focusing on establishing conditions for genuine sports growth based on fair play, respect, and integrity.
