L’entrée de l’aide humanitaire à Ghaza, « une question non négociable »
Summary of UN Secretary-General’s Statement on Gaza Humanitarian Crisis
On Wednesday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres underscored that the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip is a non-negotiable issue amidst ongoing harsh aggression from Israeli forces. He reported that for nearly two months, Israel has blocked the entry of essential supplies—food, fuel, medicine, and commercial goods—into Gaza, severely affecting over two million residents who rely heavily on external support for survival.
Gaza, with its population of about 2.4 million people, has been facing a dire humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the complete halt of aid since March 2, when Israeli forces shut down crossing points into the region. This blockade has led to a significant deterioration of living conditions, as corroborated by various governmental, humanitarian, and international agencies.
During a public debate at the UN Security Council focused on the Middle East—and particularly on the Palestinian situation—Guterres expressed grave concern over the use of humanitarian aid as a military lever by Israel. He criticized the lack of diplomatic action in light of the evolving demographic and geographic realities in the occupied West Bank. The humanitarian situation in Gaza, he noted, has reached an incomprehensible level, with over 50,000 Palestinian casualties recorded since the onset of the latest Israeli offensives, including nearly 2,000 lost lives since the ceasefire was broken on March 18.
Recently, the World Food Programme (WFP) announced that it had depleted all of its food stocks allocated for Palestinians in Gaza, highlighting the urgency of the situation. The international community’s response remains critical as diplomatic negotiations and humanitarian access continue to falter amid escalating violence.
Guterres’s appeal for unimpeded humanitarian support comes against a backdrop of ongoing conflict and geopolitical tensions, stressing the need for immediate action to alleviate the suffering of the Gazan population.
