Summary of Investment Opportunities by AAPI for Algerian Expatriates

On Thursday in Algiers, the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) hosted over 50 project entrepreneurs from the Algerian diaspora residing in 14 countries. These individuals gathered to learn about investment opportunities in Algeria, ongoing reforms to improve the business climate, and facilities aimed at supporting investors, particularly from the expatriate community.

The meeting, held at AAPI’s headquarters, coincided with the "72H d’entrepreneuriat" event, organized by “Un jeune, une idée” in collaboration with the dynamic Algerians in France movement, known as MOUDAF. A comprehensive presentation was delivered concerning Algeria’s evolving business environment, driven by reforms from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The focus was on promoting better investment conditions and highlighting promising opportunities, particularly in sectors that align with national economic priorities.

New Investment Climate

Omar Rekkache, AAPI’s Director General, elaborated on the investment process, highlighting the new legal framework which facilitates project registration and market entry. He discussed economic land grant mechanisms and the necessary reforms in this area, offering detailed insights into how potential investors could navigate the system.

Participants expressed interest in various sectors, including precision engineering, industrial waste management, water purification, digital solutions, subcontracting, manufacturing spare parts, tourism, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. Rekkache noted that the engagement from attendees was notable, underscoring their willingness to contribute to the country’s development and serve as economic ambassadors.

Community Engagement

Rekkache emphasized the crucial role of the diaspora in Algeria’s investment landscape, describing them as both a human and economic resource. He mentioned that successful investment partnerships often involve expatriate community members due to their experience and ability to foster cooperation between Algeria and their countries of residence.

The meeting was considered a success, with participants keen to bring their expertise and ideas back home. Rekkache highlighted the attention President Tebboune gives to the Algerian community abroad, emphasizing that each of his official visits overseas includes direct engagement with community members to understand their aspirations better. He reiterated the state’s commitment, through AAPI, to support any serious investment initiatives arising from the diaspora.

This concerted effort aims not only to enable the expatriate community to invest in Algeria but also to enhance the country’s economic development, tapping into the skills and knowledge of Algerians worldwide.
