La transformation numérique dans l’organisation du hadj et de la omra, thème d’une Journée d’étude à Alger
On Monday, a study day focusing on the digital transformation of Hajj and Umrah organization was held in Algiers, organized by the National Office for Pilgrimage and Umrah (ONPO). This event brought together representatives from licensed tourism and travel agencies, as well as stakeholders from the tourism, transportation, and aviation sectors.
The Director General of ONPO, Tahar Braik, highlighted the purpose of the meeting, which was to assess the advancements in digital solutions for organizing both pilgrimage and Umrah, as well as to discuss new developments for the upcoming Hajj 2025 season. He emphasized the « particular attention » that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has given to the organization and management of these religious practices, aiming to effectively address the concerns of pilgrims. Braik reiterated ONPO’s commitment to providing high-quality services that align with digital transformation.
He pointed out that the organization of Hajj and Umrah now heavily relies on advanced technological solutions. This commitment to modernization was recognized last week when ONPO received a certification for cybersecurity risk prevention from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s Information Center. This acknowledgment reflects the agency’s ongoing efforts to adapt to digital advancements in the industry.
Another critical issue addressed was the presence of « fake » travel agencies that exploit individuals wishing to perform Umrah. Braik reported that over 12 agencies are currently facing legal action, and four others have lost their licenses due to fraudulent activities.
At the conclusion of the event, participants made recommendations for improved communication channels between travel agencies and ONPO, as well as the need for increased awareness programs aimed at pilgrims to protect them from fraud.
This study day underscores the significant strides being made in digitalizing the management and logistics of Hajj and Umrah, ensuring a more secure and streamlined experience for pilgrims. By fostering collaboration among agencies and enhancing public awareness, the ONPO aims to improve service delivery in line with modern technological developments.
