La nécessité de la numérisation dans le développement du secteur de la santé soulignée à Alger
Summary of the Study Day on Digitization in Algeria’s Healthcare Sector
On Sunday, a study day was held at the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) in Algeria, focusing on the critical need for digitization in the healthcare sector. The event brought together various stakeholders who highlighted the importance of utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) for more effective data management and processing.
Digitization Efforts
During the meeting, Pr. Abderrezak Bouamra, the director general of INSP, emphasized that the integration of digital tools, particularly AI, can significantly enhance the exploitation and processing of health data. He disclosed that the INSP has been actively working on digitizing mortality data (death certificates) and morbidity data (hospitalization-related illnesses) for approximately two years.
These digitization efforts are now nearing completion, with a note that the focus has also expanded to include specific medical conditions. Currently, two additional projects have been initiated concerning childhood diabetes and oncology. Bouamra plans to extend these digitization initiatives to include stroke and coronary insufficiency records by the end of the year.
Presentation of Digital Platforms
The study day also featured presentations of various digital platforms initiated by the INSP. This overview not only showcased the ongoing digitization efforts but also touched upon broader topics related to future medical practices in Algeria. Discussions included the technical challenges and ethical-legal dilemmas posed by modern medicine in the digital age.
Overall, the study day underscored the enthusiastic push towards digitization in Algeria’s healthcare system, aiming to improve efficiency and accessibility while addressing necessary ethical concerns.
This summary encapsulates the key points discussed during the study day on digitization in Algeria’s healthcare sector, highlighting the progressive steps being taken by the INSP and the significance of embracing technology for improved health data management.
