Launch of 2025 Bluefin Tuna Fishing Campaign and Inauguration of New Fishing Vessels in Algeria
On Tuesday, at the port of Algiers, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Youcef Cherfa, along with the Minister of Transportation, Saïd Sayoud, officially inaugurated the 2025 bluefin tuna fishing campaign. This event showcased two new locally-built tuna fishing vessels, adding to Algeria’s national fleet, which now consists of 39 boats.
Introduction of New Fishing Vessels
The two newly launched fishing vessels are noted as the largest in the country, measuring 42 meters in length, with over 75% local integration in their construction.

- Built by CMR NAVAL.
- Dimensions: 42 meters long, 10 meters wide.
- Capacity: Over 420 tons.
- Engine: 2200 horsepower.
- Crew: 25 sailors with various ranks.
- "Chahid Abane Ramdane":
- Constructed by ADAM Construction Bateaux.
- Similar dimensions as the first vessel, but with a capacity of over 430 tons and 2800 horsepower.
Minister Cherfa highlighted that these new vessels will actively participate in the tuna fishing campaign along with 37 other tuna boats, with Algeria’s fishing quota exceeding 2000 tons.
