la délégation parlementaire algérienne réaffirme l’engagement immuable de l’Algérie en faveur de la cause palestinienne
Algerian Delegation at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly: A Commitment to the Palestinian Cause
The Algerian parliamentary delegation participating in the 32nd session of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Parliamentary Assembly held in Porto, Portugal, reasserted Algeria’s enduring commitment to the Palestinian cause, as noted in a statement by the People’s National Assembly (APN).
During discussions on the incessant violations of rights endured by people under occupation, Deputy Omar Terbak voiced support for a proposal by Italian MP Anna Belotti. She advocated for the OSCE to adopt a clearer and firmer stance on the suffering of the Palestinian people. Her suggestion included establishing a joint parliamentary mechanism within the OSCE to monitor and document violations perpetuated by the occupying forces and to promote tangible measures to address these injustices.
Terbak emphasized Algeria’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian struggle, arguing that advocacy for rights must translate into concrete actions in international forums, rather than merely rhetorical denunciations. He highlighted the daily hardships faced by Palestinians, including blockades, the destruction of infrastructure, repeated incursions into mosques and villages, and systematic attacks on civilians and children. He called for prioritizing the Palestinian cause within the OSCE not only as a humanitarian issue but as a legal and moral obligation that demands justice.
The delegation also participated in discussions regarding the escalating impacts of climate change on human security in the Euro-Mediterranean region. They stressed the importance of including countries like Algeria in collaborative efforts to combat desertification and tackle challenges related to food and water security. This was particularly pertinent given Algeria’s ongoing initiatives to address climate change, especially in southern regions affected by the repercussions of French nuclear tests—an issue previously raised by the Algerian delegation.
Through this engagement, the Algerian parliamentary members reiterated their commitment to diplomacy focused on defending just causes, with the Palestinian issue at the forefront. They also aimed to strengthen cooperative relations with various member states in service of principles like peace, development, and international justice.
This session highlights Algeria’s active role in advocating for Palestinian rights and addressing critical global issues such as climate change, marking its position within international dialogues as a defender of human rights and an active participant in pressing socio-political matters.
