The 12th edition of the International Film Festival of Algiers (FICA) is scheduled to take place from December 4 to 10, 2025. This announcement was made by the festival’s management team.
Overview and History
Founded in 2009 originally as the "Days of Engaged Cinema," FICA has rapidly established itself as one of the most significant film festivals in Algeria. The festival is dedicated to showcasing engaged films from across the globe, creating a platform for diverse cinematic expressions.
Highlights of the Previous Edition
The 11th edition, held in December 2022, showcased a total of 60 films, including 25 feature films, short films, and documentaries that participated in the official competition. The event included three masterclasses that focused on various pivotal themes: "Documentary and Fiction: Uncertain Borders," "Cinema and the Environment," and "The Acting Profession."
Special Recognitions
During the festival, a tribute was paid to the Palestinian foundation "Shashat for Women’s Cinema," which has been active since 2005 in promoting and developing the cinematic contributions of young Palestinian women.
Awards and Categories
FICA awards include categories for outstanding feature films, with the Grand Prix being the highest honor. Other accolades are dispensed for:
