Journée internationale de l’enfance: manifestation récréo-éducative à Alger
Summary of the International Children’s Day Celebration at the Moufdi Zakaria Cultural Palace
On June 1, the Palais de la culture "Moufdi Zakaria" in Algiers marked International Children’s Day with a vibrant recreational and educational event under the theme "The Book Remains the Best Companion." This celebration, which runs until June 4, showcases various activities and workshops designed to engage youth creatively and intellectually.
The Minister of Culture and Arts, Zouhir Ballalou, attended the event and visited different workshops, sharing in the children’s joy and commending the efforts of numerous organizations—including associations, clubs, libraries, and publishing houses—that champion children’s initiatives through engaging content and activities.
Throughout the day, children participated in workshops covering diverse topics tailored to their interests. They explored publications displayed by several publishing houses such as "Nouzhat al Albab," "Ghomaida," "Yaasoub," and "Bassamet." Notably, the National Company of Graphic Arts (ENAG) presented a collection of children’s stories in Braille, including titles like "Asnan Al-Dhahab" (The Golden Teeth) and "Thaâloub" (Little Fox) by Imene Mebarki, as well as "Ounchoudat Al-Qanadil" (The Song of Lanterns) by Mustapha Ben Dehina, and other culturally enriching literature.
An impactful photographic exhibition titled "Children of the Revolution… Children without Childhood" was on display, taken from the archives of the "Kan Ya Makan" library. This exhibit illustrated the challenging circumstances faced by Algerian children during colonial times and highlighted their involvement in Algeria’s independence celebrations in 1962.
The workshops featured a variety of activities, including manual arts, chess games, reading and storytelling sessions, free drawing, a "green corner" for exploration, and an Arabic calligraphy workshop conducted by calligrapher Abdelkrim Khassef.
The cultural palace also organized additional entertainment activities for the following days, which include theatrical performances, playful games, and clown shows, all supervised by professionals specialized in children’s programming.
This celebration not only aims to entertain but to educate and inspire the younger generation in a supportive and enriching environment, reinforcing the importance of literature and creativity in their lives.
