Summary of the Installation of the Commission for the 26th International Artisan Fair (SIAT)

In a significant move for Algeria’s tourism and artisan sectors, Houria Meddahi, the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, announced the establishment of the ministerial commission responsible for organizing the upcoming 26th International Artisan Fair (SIAT). This event is set to take place from October 1 to October 7, 2025, at the Palais des Expositions in Algiers.

During the commission’s inaugural meeting, Meddahi highlighted that the fair presents a unique opportunity to showcase Algeria’s tourist appeal. She emphasized the role of the event in promoting and marketing handmade products domestically and internationally, thereby reinforcing the nation’s cultural identity. The fair aims to celebrate Algerian craftsmanship, reinforcing the intergenerational connections inherent in artistic traditions.

Meddahi underscored the necessity for thorough preparations to ensure the event’s success. This requires collaboration among various stakeholders and adequate support for artisans, including the incorporation of digital technology and modern marketing strategies in line with state policies.

To enrich the experience at the fair, the minister urged the commission members to include a wide array of artisans from all regions of Algeria. This inclusivity is intended to highlight the country’s diverse cultural and civilizational heritage. Key strategies will also involve partnerships with the Ministry of Culture and Arts, as well as engaging young entrepreneurs and specialists in the field of handicrafts. A dedicated space for traditional culinary art is also planned to enhance the fair’s appeal.

Furthermore, Meddahi acknowledged the dedication of artisans in preserving cultural heritage and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting their development. She vowed to organize specialized training sessions aimed at bolstering artisans’ skills in marketing and product promotion, ensuring they are well-equipped to participate in upcoming fairs effectively.

In summary, the approach taken for the 26th SIAT aims not only to celebrate Algerian craftsmanship but also to strategically position it within the global artisanal market, thus promoting the country’s rich heritage and enhancing the livelihoods of its artisans.
