Summary of Recent Anti-Drug Operations by Algerian Authorities

On March 25, 2025, combined efforts of the Algerian National Gendarmerie and Customs led to the arrest of a drug trafficker on the national road N1, which connects Ghardaïa to Laghouat. This operation resulted in the seizure of 121.40 kg of cocaine found in the suspect’s vehicle. In a related incident, officers from the Border Guards apprehended four Moroccan nationals attempting to smuggle 106 kg of kif (cannabis resin) across Algeria’s western borders.

The Ministry of National Defense released a statement detailing these coordinated efforts as part of Algeria’s ongoing battle against organized crime and drug trafficking, which poses a significant threat to national security. The apprehended individuals included Rachid Saïk el-Ghazal, Yahia Kadouri, Abdelkrim Benazzi, and Kasmi Dahmane, all of whom were found in possession of kif that they intended to introduce into Algeria illegally.

These operations underscore the vigilance and determination of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) as they work tirelessly to combat organized crime and safeguard the country’s stability. The government remains committed to maintaining security and preventing narcotic substances from entering national territory, reinforcing the critical role of law enforcement agencies in achieving these goals.

Such proactive measures are essential in addressing the multifaceted nature of drug-related crime and underscore Algeria’s strategic focus on border security and overall public safety. The success of this operation highlights the importance of cooperation among various law enforcement bodies and serves as a warning to others involved in drug trafficking that Algeria is resolute in its fight against such illegal activities.
