Hidaoui prend part au Sommet de la jeunesse africaine à Addis-Abeba
Summary: Algerian Minister to Attend African Youth Summit in Addis Ababa
Mustapha Hidaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Youth and head of the Higher Youth Council (CSJ), is set to participate in the African Youth Summit scheduled for April 3-5, 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This event, organized by the African Union (AU) under the theme "Unlocking the Potential of Youth for a Prosperous Africa," aims to enhance youth engagement in promoting peace and sustainable development across the continent. Additionally, it seeks to foster unity among African youth by addressing critical issues such as diplomacy and the youth’s role in defending African interests on international platforms.
The summit is expected to attract around 1,000 young individuals and will showcase a startup exhibition alongside various cultural activities. During the event, Minister Hidaoui will highlight Algeria’s initiatives in empowering youth and formulating policies that encourage young people’s participation in decision-making processes. This focus is backed by significant government support for the youth demographic.
The statement from the ministry emphasized Algeria’s commitment through several initiatives, including the establishment of a dedicated Ministry for Youth, the creation of the CSJ, and the involvement of young people in elected assemblies at both local and national levels following adjustments to electoral laws. The government has also instituted a ministry devoted to startups and is actively modernizing higher education systems.
Additionally, the ministry outlined policies aimed at enhancing youth rights and fostering their involvement in decision-making, alongside enacting laws that support youth initiatives across various sectors.
Hidaoui plans to engage in bilateral meetings with young leaders from various countries, aiming to build a collaborative network through shared experiences among African youth councils, a recommendation stemming from the African Youth Forum held in Oran in November 2023.
The summit represents a significant step towards mobilizing the collective strength of African youth to tackle societal challenges and create a more prosperous future for the continent.
