Summary of the Event in Tipasa: Embodying Youth Consciousness

On May 19, 2023, the Minister of Youth, Mustapha Hidaoui, addressed students in Tipasa, urging them to emulate the spirit of their predecessors from May 19, 1956, who bravely faced colonial oppression. This event, organized by the National League of Algerian Students, commemorated the National Student Day under the theme of fostering awareness among students to combat digital threats and uphold media responsibility.

Hidaoui emphasized that Algeria is currently encountering targeted attacks against its youth, who are considered the backbone of the nation. He highlighted the critical need for heightened awareness and engagement among young students, drawing parallels between their struggles today and those of earlier generations who fought for independence from France. He stressed that just as past revolutionaries rose to the occasion, today’s youth must also confront contemporary challenges with unwavering resolve.

The minister pointed out the complex geopolitical landscape the world faces and encouraged young Algerians to harness the same determination displayed by their revolutionary forebears. This determination is essential to support Algeria’s economic revitalization efforts led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, calling for significant contributions to ensure the nation’s success.

Aboubakr Moulay, the president of the National League of Algerian Students, also spoke at the event, highlighting the government’s commitment to the student population by improving higher education standards. He applauded President Tebboune’s message to students, which recognized their vital role in shaping Algeria’s future.

Moulay reiterated the League’s commitment to active student engagement, emphasizing the importance of sacrifice and effort in rebuilding a victorious Algeria. This event, now in its third iteration, was supported by the National Observatory of Civil Society and involved members of parliament and officials from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It aimed to underline the central role of students in national development and enhance digital and media literacy in response to current challenges.

In essence, the gathering served as a call to action for students to recognize their potential in shaping the future of Algeria, much like their heroic ancestors did in their fight for independence. The importance of unity, sacrifice, and commitment to national values was a recurring theme, reinforcing the idea that today’s students are fundamental to ongoing efforts toward a prosperous Algeria.
