Youcef Atal, the Algerian international footballer, was sentenced to eight months in prison (suspended) and fined €45,000 for inciting hatred through a video he reposted from Palestinian preacher Mahmoud Al Hasanat, which contained inflammatory remarks about Jews. The appeals court in Aix-en-Provence upheld this ruling, emphasizing that Atal must be responsible for his social media posts. Following his initial sentence in January 2024, Atal claimed he was merely expressing support for suffering individuals, stating he hadn’t watched the video fully. After the controversy, he left OGC Nice for Adana Demirspor and later moved to Al-Sadd in Doha.
