Summary of the Exhibition "Touches du souvenir" at MAMO, Oran

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts (MAMO) in Oran is currently showcasing an art exhibition titled "Touches du souvenir," in honor of the National Artist’s Day celebrated on June 8 each year. This exhibition opened its doors on Sunday and features 45 artworks by four talented artists: Meriem Benkhedda, Nadia Benmouna, Farouk Medjbeur, and Ryad Belharche.

The artworks presented in this exhibition explore a range of themes, all inspired by Algerian heritage, national identity, and the significant events of the country’s liberation war. Khadidja Benhaoua, the cultural manager of MAMO, highlighted the diverse artistic techniques and meticulously chosen color palettes used in the pieces, enriching the cultural narrative conveyed through the art.

Meriem Benkhedda, who is not only a painter but also an architect, focuses on architectural heritage, traditional customs, and the unique attire of Oran and Algiers. She describes her artistic style as close to impressionism, utilizing contrasting colors to foster harmony and vitality in her compositions.

Nadia Benmouna, another architect and artist, draws inspiration from traditional crafts and Algeria’s iconic historical monuments. She has incorporated gold and silver thread into her works, utilizing a Medjboud embroidery technique that adds an innovative artistic flair reflective of abstract art.

Emerging artist Ryad Belharche, a master’s student in English, is showcasing his work for the first time at this event. His paintings primarily in acrylic capture the beauty of natural landscapes, emphasizing his fascination with the sea through vibrant color play.

Fouad Medjbeur, also featured in the exhibition, presents works that delve into nature and historical sites. His artistic style demonstrates a high level of skill and experience, contributing to the overall diversity of the exhibition.

The "Touches du souvenir" exhibition will continue until June 26, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Algerian art and culture through these contemporary interpretations.
