Meeting on Algeria-Libya Trade Facilitation

On Wednesday, Kamel Rezig, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, convened a coordination meeting with economic operators engaged in exports to Libya. The gathering aimed to explore ways to streamline the delivery of Algerian goods and services to the Libyan market, as detailed in a statement from the ministry.

This meeting is part of a series of consultations involving various economic stakeholders, with notable attendees including the Governor of the Bank of Algeria, the General Commissioner of the Association of Banks and Financial Institutions (ABEF), and the Vice President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), alongside senior ministry officials.

During the meeting, Minister Rezig reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to supporting exporters by creating an enabling environment for the flow of Algerian products and services into Libya. This support encompasses logistical assistance, enhancements to the regulatory framework governing exports, and coordination with financial institutions to ensure secure transactions.

The minister stressed the importance of assisting economic operators in line with the sector’s strategy to boost non-hydrocarbon exports, following directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who emphasizes the significance of economic support and commercial integration with various countries.

Rezig highlighted that the Libyan market presents a natural extension for Algerian exports and is considered one of the most promising markets. This opportunity not only involves exporting products but also establishing long-term economic partnerships.

The meeting also focused on understanding exporters’ concerns and addressing the obstacles they face in the field, with the aim of finding tangible solutions in collaboration with various sectors, including finance and banking.

In summary, the coordination meeting underscored Algeria’s dedication to enhancing its trade relations with Libya, emphasizing logistics, regulatory improvements, and financial security, thereby fostering a more robust export framework.
