Summary of the Ceremony Honoring Mujahideen and War Veterans for Algeria’s Independence
On Thursday, the Ministry of Mujahideen and Family Members held a ceremony in Algiers to honor veterans of Algeria’s liberation war, including severely disabled war veterans and their families. This event was part of the celebrations marking the 63rd anniversary of Algeria’s independence, themed "Our Algeria, the Legacy of the Martyrs, the Glory of the Loyal."
The ceremony was overseen by Mr. Laïd Rebiga, the Minister of Mujahideen and Family Members. Key attendees included Mr. Azouz Nasri, President of the Council of the Nation; Mr. Amar Abba, a diplomatic advisor to the President; and Mr. Youcef Belmehdi, Minister of Religious Affairs, alongside many historical figures, officials, and veterans from various regions of Algeria.
A total of twelve severely disabled veterans and their families were recognized for their sacrifices, which included children of martyrs, victims of landmines, and other civilian casualties related to the conflict. Each honored individual received practical support in the form of motorized tricycles and electric wheelchairs.
The ceremony also extended honors to leaders of several revolutionary family organizations, including Mr. Haï Abdennebi, president of the National Association of Severely Disabled War Veterans. In a press statement, Abdennebi commended the government’s commitment to the health and welfare of these veterans, particularly the severely disabled, through various institutions managed by the Ministry.
He expressed particular gratitude to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his ongoing efforts to prioritize veterans and the preservation of Algeria’s national memory, acknowledging the significant role of history in society.
Additionally, the Ministry recognized the contributions of the President of the Council of the Nation and the rector of Djamaâ El-Djazaïr during the anniversary celebrations.
This ceremony reflects Algeria’s commitment to honoring its past and the sacrifices made during the war for independence, ensuring that the legacy of the martyrs and veterans is remembered and upheld.
