On Wednesday, a coordination meeting was convened at the headquarters of the Algerian Olympic Committee (COA). This meeting brought together representatives from various sports federations to discuss preparations for upcoming official events.

The session was led by Yacine Arab, the Director of Sports at the COA, along with two executive committee members, Mahdi Oucif (basketball) and Noureddine Zehafi (swimming). The focus was on the intensive training and developmental needs of Algerian athletes as they gear up for significant competitions.

Key upcoming events include the inaugural African School Games in Algiers from July 26 to August 5, 2025, the African Youth Games scheduled for December 2025 in Luanda, Angola, and the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 set to take place in Dakar, Senegal. Representatives from sports federations, national technical directors, and national team directors shared their concerns. They provided documents highlighting the specific needs to ensure each athlete’s optimal performance.

The African School Games in Algiers will occur across several cities, including Skikda, Annaba, Sétif, and Constantine. This event is organized under the auspices of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ACNOA) in collaboration with the International School Sport Federation. The program will feature 24 diverse sporting disciplines, spanning athletics, swimming, judo, taekwondo, skateboarding, beach volleyball, 3×3 basketball, and football.

The African School Games aim to support young athletes on the continent, preparing them for major competitions such as the African Youth Games and the Youth Olympic Games, alongside future events like the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
