rencontre de coordination entre Mme Hamlaoui et M. Zerb pour explorer les voies de coopération
Summary of the Coordination Meeting between the Algerian Red Crescent and Prison Administration
On Wednesday, Ibtissem Hamlaoui, the President of the Algerian Red Crescent (CRA), held a coordination meeting with M. Essaïd Zreb, the Director General of the Prison Administration and Reintegration. The primary focus was to discuss enhancing cooperation regarding the care of vulnerable groups both within and outside prison facilities, along with providing some of these facilities with medical staff.
The meeting included a review of the existing agreement between the two entities, which aims to assist inmates and their families through solidarity programs and vocational training, thereby facilitating their social reintegration. Hamlaoui emphasized the need to support prisoners in acquiring professional qualifications, citing the success of a project producing school uniforms. In 2024, 50,000 uniforms made by inmates were distributed, marking a significant step toward their professional integration. This initiative underlines CRA’s commitment as the humanitarian arm of the Algerian state, promoting support for vulnerable populations and reinforcing social solidarity and sustainable development.
Zreb expressed his determination to expand cooperation by exploring options to include medical staff from CRA in selected prison facilities. This partnership aims to launch new initiatives that would improve the conditions for inmates and strengthen their roles as positive societal contributors through professional training programs, thus aiding their reintegration after serving their sentences.
During the meeting, Hamlaoui was recognized for her and the CRA’s efforts in supporting prison facilities.
This collaborative approach emphasizes the importance of addressing the needs of incarcerated individuals and affirms the CRA’s ongoing commitment to driving social change and support for the vulnerable segments of society.
