National Conference on Digital Transition in Education
A national conference titled "Evaluating the Digital Transition in the Education Sector" took place in Algiers, emphasizing the sector’s pivotal role in establishing the foundations of digital transition and promoting cybersecurity culture within society.
Emphasis on Cybersecurity by the Educational Sector
In his presentation on "Security of National Information Systems: Threats, Challenges, and Strategy," General Abdeslam Belghoul, Director General of the National Information Systems Security Agency (ASSI), highlighted the significant contributions of the national education sector towards achieving the objectives outlined in the national strategy for information systems security. He stressed the importance of embedding cybersecurity culture among students through systematic integration of its principles into school curricula and awareness campaigns.
General Belghoul underscored that no nation is exempt from cyberattacks, regardless of their nature, and emphasized Algeria’s proactive stance in combating these threats. This is supported by the national information systems security framework established under presidential decree 05-20, which includes two primary structures: the National Security Council for Information Systems (CNSSI) and the ASSI. He noted that this approach is crucial for developing the national strategy in information systems security.
Digital Transition Strategy Overview
In his discussion on "National Digital Transition Strategy," Bouzid Sofiane, a representative from the High Commission for Digitalization, presented ongoing projects, including the "Consensual National Interoperability Platform" and the "Interactive National Portal for Digital Services." These initiatives comprise two data centers and a secure sovereign network that interlinks various ministerial sectors.
Regarding the education sector specifically, Sofiane mentioned the steps taken to realize digital governance objectives. This includes the introduction of digital services through a national portal dedicated to such initiatives, along with establishing a database that connects the education sector to the National Algerian Center for Digital Services.
Importance of Data Protection
Furthermore, Mohamed Zenim, Director of Legal Affairs and Compliance at the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data (ANPDP), stressed the necessity of fostering a culture of data protection beginning within educational institutions. He highlighted the importance of developing a "computer charter" and a "confidentiality and non-disclosure charter," among other measures that could safeguard personal data.
Conclusion
In summary, the conference underscored a collective commitment to advancing digital education and cybersecurity in Algeria. It highlighted ongoing efforts to integrate digital services into the education sector, emphasizing the need for proactive measures aimed at fostering a secure digital environment. By embedding cybersecurity principles within school curricula and promoting data protection awareness, Algeria aims to reinforce its national capacity to navigate the complexities of the digital landscape effectively.
