Summary of Ministerial Meeting Led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune

On Sunday, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune convened a meeting of the Council of Ministers, during which key discussions focused on the establishment of two national bodies for import and export management and progress on digitalization initiatives.

Key Decisions and Proposals

  1. Creation of Import and Export Bodies:

    • The President directed that the presentation of the new structures be postponed to enrich and refine their legal frameworks, ensuring they are robust and aligned with international standards for the long term.
    • He will personally oversee the development of these bodies, emphasizing the need for a ministerial meeting in the coming days to avoid past mistakes associated with import operations.
    • A focus was placed on the need for comprehensive coordination among various entities, including the Ministry of Foreign Trade, banks, the Central Bank, and Customs, aimed at implementing targeted controls to protect national production and manage imports effectively.
  2. Regulatory Enhancements:

    • Specific criteria for importers and exporters will be outlined, addressing organization and regulation of imports.
    • The introduction of import regulation mechanisms, such as purchasing centers, will offer clearer oversight of import activities.
    • The alignment of import activities with national production needs was stressed, identifying essential resources for economic stability.
    • The Minister of Foreign Trade was tasked with developing exclusively Algerian standards for all importers.
  3. Digital Tablets for Primary Education:

    • The President highlighted the acquisition of digital tablets to alleviate the burden of traditional schoolbags and enhance educational methodologies.
    • A minimum local integration rate of 70% for these tablets was mandated, encouraging collaboration with experienced Algerian companies and startups.
    • This initiative is seen as a chance for startups to emerge and strengthen the national economy.
  4. National Autism Plan:
    • The establishment of a national center and regional branches for autism care was mandated to ensure optimal support for affected children.
    • Attention will be given to minimize psychological impacts on children during their care periods away from parents.

Additional Outcomes

Following the discussions, the Council of Ministers approved various decrees regarding appointments and dismissals in senior government roles. This meeting represents a strategic move towards enhancing national economic controls and improving social welfare initiatives, particularly in education and healthcare sectors.

President Tebboune’s proactive approach reflects a commitment to refining the operational structures within vital sectors while integrating local competencies to foster sustainable growth and development.
