Boughali rencontre son homologue bahreïni
ALGER – Meeting Highlights Between Algeria and Bahrain
On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Algerian National Assembly President Brahim Boughali met with his Bahraini counterpart, Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musallam, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The two leaders expressed their "great satisfaction" with the strong bilateral relations between Algeria and Bahrain, which they acknowledged during the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The meeting was described as cordial and productive, reflecting the positive rapport that has developed between the legislative bodies of the two nations. Both Boughali and Al-Musallam welcomed the constructive parliamentary cooperation, emphasizing their shared commitment to enhancing coordination and expanding areas of cooperation for the benefit of their peoples.
Boughali highlighted the increasing role of the Algerian Parliament within the IPU framework, reiterating the efforts of the Algerian delegation to promote coordination among the Arab and African geopolitical groups. He underscored the importance of unifying positions and fostering a convergence of views on pressing regional issues during IPU discussions.
Central to their dialogue was the support for a just resolution to the Palestinian cause and denouncing ongoing Israeli aggression in Palestinian territories. Boughali called for increased Arab-African backing for proposed resolutions and urgent clauses during the current session aimed at addressing these critical issues.
The Algerian parliament speaker stressed the need to enliven various mechanisms of parliamentary diplomacy, particularly through more active engagement of the parliamentary friendship group and enhancing visits and exchanges between the legislative institutions. This, he noted, would strengthen bonds of cooperation and deepen ties between the two brotherly nations.
In response, Al-Musallam expressed Bahrain’s readiness to support initiatives that advance common Arab causes, prioritizing the Palestinian issue. He reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to the principles of a unified Arab stance. Additionally, Al-Musallam stressed the importance of boosting trade relations between Algeria and Bahrain, advocating for enhanced economic cooperation through joint parliamentary frameworks that reflect the deep political and fraternal ties between the two countries.
The meeting also included attendees such as Algerian parliament member Mohamed Anouar Bouchouit, National Council member Kamel Khelifati, and Algerian Ambassador to Tashkent, Mohamed Irki, who underscored the collaborative spirit of the discussions.
This engagement underscores the ongoing diplomatic efforts between Algeria and Bahrain, focusing on both political and economic cooperation, with a particular emphasis on aligning their stances on vital regional issues, notably the Palestinian cause.
