Belmehdi souligne le rôle de la fatwa dans le renforcement du référent religieux et la préservation de l'identité nationale
Importance of Fatwa in Strengthening Religious Reference and National Identity
On Tuesday in Algiers, Youcef Belmehdi, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Wakfs, emphasized the crucial role of fatwa in consolidating religious reference and preserving national identity. Leading the opening of a national seminar titled "Strengthening the National Religious Reference through Fatwa and Promoting Training," the minister noted that fatwas serve as a security valve against intrusive and destructive ideas.
Belmehdi highlighted that fatwas are significant and sensitive due to their potentially severe consequences stemming from misinterpretations or the acceptance of foreign ideas. He cautioned against inappropriate and malicious fatwas targeting safe, developing, and prosperous countries. In light of this concern, he pointed out the ongoing efforts to safeguard the religious reference through the interventions of scholars and imams across various media and digital platforms, as well as the ministry’s hotline for public inquiries.
The minister stated that these initiatives aim to unify the nation and raise awareness about the importance of standing together to protect the country from alien influences. He stresses the need to bequeath to future generations a religious system fortified by Algérian scholars.
The seminar’s agenda includes multiple speeches and workshops focusing on the role of education in solidifying the national religious reference and addressing rumors and erroneous fatwas.
In summary, the minister’s address underscored the vital task of using fatwas as tools for maintaining a coherent national identity and combating detrimental ideologies, grounding these efforts in the collective understanding and action of Algeria’s religious community.
