Summary of the Graduation Ceremony

On Wednesday, Alger, the Minister of Culture and Arts, Zouhir Ballalou, presided over the graduation ceremony for the 2024-2025 class of students from higher arts and heritage institutes. This event took place at the Mahieddine-Bachtarzi National Theater in celebration of the 63rd anniversary of Algeria’s Independence and Youth Day.

Graduation Details

Ballalou announced that 128 students graduated from various artistic specializations. This achievement reflects the dedication of the academic faculty, the administrative support staff, and, crucially, the students’ commitment to excellence. The ceremony symbolized the culmination of a national mission aimed at enhancing Algeria’s cultural landscape and preserving its artistic heritage on both local and international levels.

Focus on Higher Education in Culture

The minister emphasized that the cultural sector places significant importance on higher education as part of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s vision. Tebboune has stressed that culture should be a cornerstone in Algeria’s new development project, serving as a catalyst for sustainable growth and enhancing Algeria’s presence in global cultural discussions through creative industries.

Collaborative Initiatives

To implement this vision, Ballalou shared the ministry’s intention to foster partnerships across various sectors. This would create hands-on training opportunities, practical workshops, and encourage scientific research in fields such as heritage conservation, visual arts, digitization, and performing arts. The ministry is also committed to facilitating access for graduates to cultural production tools, encouraging their entrepreneurial efforts, and providing necessary support for their success.

Recognition of Outstanding Students

The ceremony recognized exceptional students in specialties including performing arts, audiovisual production, visual arts, music, and heritage preservation from several prestigious institutions. These included the Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina National Higher Institute of Cinema, the National School of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Goods, the Higher School of Fine Arts, the National Higher Institute of Music, and the National Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts and Audiovisuals.

Academic Achievements

During the ceremony, the pedagogical assessment for the academic year 2024-2025 was presented. This report highlighted the role of higher education in supporting cultural entrepreneurship and the economy. Graduating students also presented projects showcasing their learning and creativity across various domains.

In conclusion, the ceremony not only celebrated the graduates’ academic achievements but also underscored the importance of cultural education in fostering not just individual excellence but also broader economic and social development within Algeria.
