On October 7th, during the National Artist Day celebration at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers, Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Zouhir Ballalou, emphasized the strong support provided by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the arts and artists. The event included the awarding of the President’s Prize for Young Creators, named after the esteemed artist Ali Maâchi.

In his remarks, Ballalou acknowledged Tebboune’s relentless efforts to promote the arts and improve artists’ living conditions, highlighting that the President has always regarded culture as a critical pillar for safeguarding national identity and authenticity. This commitment has earned immense gratitude from many artists, who recognize the tangible advancements achieved during this administration. Ballalou extended his appreciation to Tebboune for his genuine and paternal support of Algerian culture.

The minister pointed out several significant achievements in supporting artists, describing this era as a historic turning point. He cited the establishment of an artist status law, the enactment of regulations for the film industry, the revitalization of the National Fund for Film Development, and infrastructure improvements as part of extensive reforms within the cultural sector.

Ballalou also addressed the social aspects concerning artists, mentioning initiatives to enhance their social security. He highlighted the upcoming establishment of a medical-social center for artists, which aims to ensure their health and social welfare.

Emphasizing the crucial role of artists in society, Ballalou reiterated the commitment of the Ministry of Culture to ensure that the National Office of Copyright and Related Rights (ONDA) continues to develop protective measures and improve artists’ working conditions, ensuring their welfare is consistently prioritized.

Furthermore, the minister conveyed congratulations from both the President and the Prime Minister to all Algerian artists on their national day, recognizing the legacy of artist-martyr Ali Maâchi and other devoted artists, including the renowned Front de Libération Nationale (FLN) artistic group. He celebrated this year’s winners of the President’s Prize for Young Creators, affirming that the award remains a pivotal platform for nurturing creativity.

In conclusion, Ballalou reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to involve and support Algerian intellectuals and creators.
