Title: Strengthening Academic Collaboration in Algeria through Research Partnerships

On Saturday, the Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, officiated the signing of 21 twinning agreements between higher education institutions and research centers. This significant ceremony took place at the University of Science and Technology Houari-Boumediene (USTHB) in Algiers and aims to foster better coordination in the field of knowledge.

Minister Baddari articulated that these agreements represent a pivotal step in modernizing the Algerian university system and research institutions. He emphasized that the primary goal of these collaborations is to enhance scientific research and cognitive training, ultimately bridging the gap between academia and the socio-economic environment. This initiative is designed to provide greater visibility to scientific research and align it with societal needs.

In his speech, Baddari highlighted the importance of establishing broader governance for universities and research institutions at both national and international levels. Such governance is expected to yield improved outcomes in terms of academic performance and research efficiency. He expressed optimism that the investments made in this area will soon bear fruit, leading to the creation of universities that actively contribute to the national economy and foster effective scientific inquiry.

The director of USTHB, Djamel Eddine Akretche, reiterated the significance of these agreements, stating that they would enable higher education and research institutions to share expertise and help them integrate into international rankings. The agreements mark a substantial progression towards greater collaboration and the realization of joint projects.

USTHB itself has entered into nine agreements with various prestigious centers, including the Renewable Energy Development Center (CDER), the Industrial Technologies Research Center (CRTI), the Scientific and Technical Research Center for Physical-Chemical Analysis (CRAPC), and several engineering and specialized schools. This diversification of partnerships allows USTHB to broaden its research capabilities and educational offerings.

Further consolidating this initiative, the University Djilali Liabès of Sidi Bel-Abbès signed five agreements with the Advanced Technology Development Center (CDTA) and multiple national polytechnic schools. These partnerships are expected to promote knowledge transfer and innovation across the educational landscape in Algeria.

Additionally, the "Ferhat Abbas" University of Sétif 1 is actively engaging in similar pursuits by signing seven agreements with various research entities, covering topics such as agro-food technology, biotechnology, and renewable energies. This development underscores a nationwide commitment to enhancing educational standards and promoting interdisciplinary research.

In summary, the signing of these 21 twinning agreements represents a strategic move by the Algerian government to modernize its higher education and research sector. By establishing collaborative ties between universities and research centers, the country aims to enhance scientific research, increase educational quality, and align academic efforts with market demands. This initiative is anticipated to create a dynamic environment conducive to innovation and economic growth, ultimately positioning Algeria as a more competitive player on the global academic stage. It signals a collective resolve to empower institutions to contribute more effectively to societal needs, thereby fostering a stronger link between education, research, and the economy. Through enhanced cooperation and resource sharing, Algeria is poised to make significant advancements in both higher education and scientific research in the years to come.
