Launch of Doctoral Training in Animal Production in Algeria
On Thursday in Algiers, Kamel Baddari, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, presided over the official launch of an exceptional doctoral program in animal production. This initiative aims to enhance national efforts toward achieving food security in Algeria.
In his speech during the launch event held at the National School of Veterinary Medicine (ENSV), Minister Baddari emphasized that this program seeks to align strategic scientific research with local development goals, particularly in promoting food security. He highlighted the significance of leveraging scientific findings to improve production in the agricultural sector, indicating that the doctoral research conducted by candidates in animal production will provide scientific solutions that will increase agricultural output.
This doctoral program is the result of a collaboration between the National School of Veterinary Medicine (ENSV), the National School of Agronomic Sciences (ENSA), and several research centers. On this occasion, Sonia Bessalem, the director of ENSV, expressed that the project aims to cultivate elite professionals capable of contributing to sector development and creating research that offers solutions to enhance livestock activities.
Additionally, Tarik Hartani, the director of ENSA, underscored the project’s significance, noting its contribution to the overarching goal of ensuring food security.
During a scientific colloquium held as part of the launch, themed "Sustainable Development and Animal Production: The Strategic Contribution of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research," participants discussed the current state of livestock farming in Algeria, addressing major challenges such as animal health, the use of veterinary products, and the genetic diversity of sheep herds, along with methods for improving these areas.
In summary, this initiative represents a critical step in Algeria’s path toward achieving self-sufficiency in food production by fostering advanced research in animal production, aimed at addressing pressing agricultural challenges in the country.
