On Thursday, Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, welcomed Shakeel Mohamed, the Mauritian Minister of Housing and Lands, who was on a work visit to Algeria aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. During their meeting at the ministry’s headquarters, the Mauritian minister presented a letter from Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, conveying heartfelt greetings and well-wishes for Algeria’s progress and prosperity.

In his address, Shakeel Mohamed congratulated Algeria on the recent election of Ambassador Selma Haddadi as the vice-president of the African Union Commission, expressing pride in her deserved victory. Arkab took this opportunity to underline President Tebboune’s commitment to enhancing African solidarity and cooperation, emphasizing the importance of strategic relationships that align with the desires of African populations for unity and sustainable economic development.

The discussions between the two ministers centered on enhancing collaboration in various sectors, particularly in energy. They explored potential avenues for cooperation in electricity generation, natural gas marketing, and oil products, highlighting the importance of exchanging insights and best practices. The Mauritian delegation expressed a keen interest in leveraging Algeria’s substantial experience in critical areas such as solar photovoltaic energy projects and microgrid implementation for electricity supply in remote regions.

Arkab emphasized Algeria’s pivotal role in the African Union and its strategic priority of advancing energy transformation on the continent. He reiterated Algeria’s dedication to supporting all African initiatives focused on achieving energy sustainability and pointed out Algeria’s commitment of its resources and expertise to promote these endeavors. Both parties recognized the significance of collaboration among African nations in ensuring energy security and socio-economic development.

The minister also called for investment in human resource development and the expansion of training programs in the energy sector. He underscored the need for African professionals to acquire the skills necessary to tackle challenges and achieve sustainable development.

In his remarks, Shakeel Mohamed expressed his country’s deep respect for Algeria, acknowledging its leadership role on the African stage. He reiterated Mauritius’s desire to broaden bilateral cooperation across various fields for the mutual benefit of both brotherly nations.
