Appel à l’intensification des investissements environnementaux pour créer une valeur ajoutée durable

Summary of Environmental Investment in Algeria

On Wednesday, a significant information day was held in Algiers, organized by the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI). The event aimed to encourage investment in green sectors, particularly in recycling and wastewater treatment, which are poised to deliver sustainable value.

During this meeting, various stakeholders emphasized the necessity of channeling capital into environmentally friendly initiatives. These sectors not only promote ecological welfare but also represent economically viable investment opportunities. Chakib Smail Kouidri, the General Director of CACI, highlighted that environmental investments serve as a crucial lever for building a modern, diversified, and sustainable economy. He noted these investments sit at the intersection of economic development and environmental protection.

Algeria possesses significant natural resources that can be efficiently harnessed, such as solar and wind energy, in addition to its capabilities in waste recycling and recovery. Kouidri stressed the importance of collaborative efforts among all economic and legal actors to unify perspectives, share experiences, and leverage expertise in promoting investment while safeguarding the environment.

Former Minister of Environment and Renewable Energies, Samia Moualfi, who is also a CACI jury member, underscored the opportunities presented by the new investment law. This law facilitates the development of green projects that make the best of the country’s available resources. She indicated that waste has now become a source of wealth and economic potential capable of generating added value and creating jobs.

Throughout the information day, economic operators discussed the need to pivot towards environmental investment. They explored available investment opportunities in this domain and proposed solutions to the challenges encountered in their endeavors.

This focus on green investment is not merely about environmental benefits but also about stimulating economic growth and job creation in Algeria. By capitalizing on natural resources and addressing environmental issues, stakeholders aim to forge a path toward a more sustainable and prosperous future for the country’s economy.
