Call for Submissions for the 15th National Festival of Comic Theatre in Médéa, Algeria
The Organizing Committee of the 15th National Festival of Comic Theatre in Médéa has issued an invitation to theatre practitioners across Algeria to participate in its upcoming edition, scheduled to take place from June 30 to July 5. This year’s festival carries the theme "Médéa: 100 Years of Theatre," and is dedicated to the renowned journalist and writer Ammar-Yezli.
A total of seven productions will be selected for participation, with the chosen performances contending for various awards, including Best Performance (Golden Cluster), Best Script, Best Direction, Best Music, Best Scenography, Best Male and Female Roles, along with a special Jury Prize.
The festival is open to both professional and amateur theatre cooperatives and associations. Interested parties must complete the designated online application form, which includes a link to a video showcasing their proposed production. This submission must be completed by June 1.
Additional eligibility criteria require the works presented to be humorous in nature, explicitly excluding monologues and sketches. Each performance should have a minimum duration of 60 minutes and involve no more than 15 artistic and technical personnel.
To ensure a fair selection process, the festival committee will appoint a group of academics and experts in the field of theatre to oversee the pre-selection process, ultimately narrowing down to the seven finalists. Results of this selection will be announced by June 10.
For those wishing to apply, comprehensive details regarding the application process and submission criteria are available on the festival’s official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/fntcmedeapersonnes. Here, potential participants can access the application form and review all necessary participation requirements.
As the festival approaches, it promises to be a significant celebration of comedic theatre, fostering connections and showcasing talent from across Algeria in honor of a century’s worth of theatrical tradition in the region. This event not only highlights the rich cultural heritage of Médéa but also encourages the evolution of comedic expression within the art form, reaffirming its importance in contemporary Algerian society.
