Summary of the National Children’s Letter-Writing Competition 2025

On Tuesday, the results of the 2025 National Children’s Letter-Writing Competition were announced in Algiers, Algeria. This initiative is part of Algeria’s preparations for the 54th international competition organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The theme for this year’s competition was "Imagine you are the Ocean," highlighting environmental awareness among the younger generation.

Organized by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications in collaboration with various government departments, including Education, National Solidarity, Family Affairs, Women’s Status, and Environment, the competition aimed to foster a sense of responsibility regarding ocean conservation and sustainable development. The initiative earned recognition for promoting citizenship and encouraging children to engage with pressing environmental issues.

Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki underscored the impressive participation, noting that over 88,000 children entered, including 682 with special needs. This high turnout reflects the young contestants’ growing awareness of environmental challenges.

Nadjiba Djilali, the Minister of Environment and Quality of Life, reiterated the importance of educating the younger generation about environmental respect, particularly in the context of the unprecedented challenges our planet faces, including pollution and climate change.

Salah Belaid, the head of the Higher Arabic Language Council, discussed the selection criteria for winners. The top winner, who will represent Algeria in the international competition, received a perfect score. This edition featured 20 selected entries written in Arabic, Tamazight, and English, with the first prize awarded to El Mouâtassim Billah Ouathik Madini from Batna.

Overall, the competition not only celebrates children’s creativity but also serves as a platform for instilling environmental consciousness, reflecting Algeria’s commitment to nurturing a responsible future generation.
