On Wednesday, Omar Dadi Addoune, the chair of the Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Algerian Community Commission in the Council of the Nation, met with Youcef Bin Ali Al Khater, the chair of the Interior and Foreign Affairs Commission of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, along with his accompanying delegation. This meeting was held as part of the efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, under the directive of the president of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the enduring and evolving historic ties between Algeria and Qatar, aligning their aspirations with the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani. They emphasized a commitment to deepening their strategic partnership for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
Addoune praised the coordination and collaboration in regional and international parliamentary forums, highlighting Algeria’s diplomatic principles centered on the right to self-determination, non-interference in state affairs, and promoting inclusive dialogue in international conflicts. He noted Algeria’s role in fostering security and stability in the Sahel region and addressing sources of tension.
He also remarked on Algeria’s contributions as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, reaffirming its dedication to peace and stability, as well as its support for the Palestinian cause. This involves advocating for Palestinian sovereignty and condemning actions against the Palestinian people, including calls to halt violence in Gaza and facilitate humanitarian aid.
Regarding economic cooperation, Addoune emphasized the mutual economic interests of both nations, citing the new investment law aimed at creating an inviting atmosphere for local and foreign investors, which is part of Algeria’s strategy to diversify its economy.
In his address, Al Khater affirmed the alignment in perspectives on regional and international issues, especially regarding Algeria’s support for the Palestinian cause—a stance rooted in Algeria’s revolutionary history. He reiterated the delegation’s ambition to enhance parliamentary coordination and action between Algeria and Qatar, exploring avenues for cooperation that serve their mutual interests in a rapidly changing global landscape, aiming to usher in a new era of bilateral relations.
In summary, the meeting encapsulated a strong commitment between Algeria and Qatar to reinforce historical ties, strategic partnerships, and collaborative efforts across multiple fronts, particularly in foreign diplomacy and economic relations, while safeguarding shared values and interests in the face of global challenges.
