On Tuesday in Chlef, Minister of Post and Telecommunications Sid Ali Zerrouki announced the activation of national roaming services for emergency numbers across mobile networks, expected to be operational by the end of this month. This service aims to enhance emergency response capabilities, especially along the East-West highway during urgent situations.

Key Highlights from the Announcement:

  1. Emergency National Roaming:

    • The new service will allow users to contact emergency services, irrespective of their mobile network provider or SIM card type.
    • Initially focusing on the East-West highway, it will later expand to other national roads, including RN1 and RN5.
  2. Mobile Network Coverage:

    • Minister Zerrouki pressed mobile operators to achieve complete 4G coverage along the East-West highway by mid-June to improve service quality for travelers.
  3. Site Inspections and Infrastructure Development:

    • During his visit, the minister inaugurated a 4G base station in El Kechachda and reviewed ongoing projects related to the universal telecommunications service in Chlef, which covers 127 regions.
    • Out of the planned infrastructure, 63 base stations are to be constructed, with 33 already operational and 14 expected to be activated shortly.
  4. Promotion of Fiber Optic Technology:

    • At El Hassania, the minister highlighted the expansion of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology, urging local campaigns to attract more subscribers. Currently, 39,118 residents in Chlef are using FTTH.
  5. Encouragement of Digital Payment:

    • Zerrouki encouraged residents to adopt electronic payment solutions by highlighting their benefits.
  6. Service Accessibility Initiatives:
    • He also inaugurated a Mobilis service center in Bensouna and visited the main post office and Algeria Telecom’s headquarters.

In conclusion, these initiatives reflect a significant investment in telecommunications infrastructure aimed at enhancing emergency response, improving connectivity, and encouraging the adoption of modern technology among citizens in Chlef.
