Le Plan d’action 2024/2030 vise à renforcer l’attractivité touristique nationale
Summary of Algeria’s Tourism and Craftsmanship Action Plan (2024-2030)
On Tuesday in Algiers, the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, outlined the strategic action plan for the tourism sector for the period spanning 2024 to 2030. The goal is to enhance the national tourism appeal and support artisan products and services.
During a presentation to the Culture, Communication, and Tourism Commission at the National People’s Assembly, and with the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Kaouter Krikou, present, Meddahi detailed several core components of this action plan. A key focus is on invigorating and promoting domestic tourism to build local attractiveness and showcase a variety of handicrafts.
The plan emphasizes the development of tourist areas rich in cultural, historical, and religious significance, particularly in southern regions. Additionally, it plans to enhance coastal, thermal, and mountain tourism while supporting activities in natural parks and wetlands. The initiative aims to expedite the upgrading of tourist expansion areas across the 14 coastal wilayas, facilitating investment projects.
Moreover, the establishment of new thermal stations and the development of thalassotherapy are prioritized, with a target of creating at least two centers in each wilaya. Investment in the construction of accommodation facilities and improvements in mountain trail access are also included.
Meddahi asserted that Algeria boasts sufficient current assets to boost foreign tourist arrivals, especially towards desert tourism hubs. This reflects a rising global demand for adventure and exploratory tourism. To further this, the plan includes improving accommodation capacity through the allocation of tourist land and the improvement of 10 new tourist zones. Recently, 170 tourist development plans were approved alongside the creation of 20 expansion zones.
Continued training initiatives are aimed at ensuring a skilled workforce that meets international standards, in collaboration with vocational training sectors.
Regarding craftsmanship, the action plan includes measures to enhance artisans’ skills, improve product quality, promote marketing and exports, and provide economic support. It emphasizes the preservation of traditional heritage, ensuring the craftsmanship sector contributes effectively to overall development.
In summary, Algeria’s 2024-2030 action plan for tourism and craftsmanship aims to not only bolster local tourism and enhance the artisan sector but also adapt to global tourism trends, creating sustainable growth and partnership opportunities within these industries.
