On Wednesday, Radio Algérie Internationale celebrated its 18th anniversary in Algiers, coinciding with the 63rd anniversary of the Victory Day. This occasion provided a platform to reflect on the channel’s journey and its significant role in portraying Algeria on the international stage.

The event, themed « From Creation to the Challenges of Digital Media, » emphasized the significance of digital sovereignty in a technologically evolving world. It also highlighted the media’s crucial role in shaping Algeria’s image abroad, especially amid the rising issue of misinformation and the exploitation of new media by those spreading fake news.

During the ceremony, a cooperation agreement was signed between Radio Algérie Internationale and the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences at the University of Algiers 3. This partnership aims to strengthen the connection between academic pursuits and practical experience, ultimately benefiting students and advancing scientific research.

Mohamed Zebda, Director of Radio Algérie Internationale, explained that this initiative reflects the station’s commitment to expanding its cooperation network and providing training adapted to new media in line with ongoing technological transformations. Khaled Rouaski, the rector of the University of Algiers 3, described the convention as a « qualitative contribution » for the faculty, which is currently involved in multiple projects to enhance its infrastructure, including the establishment of digital training studios. This initiative also includes restructuring training offerings and creating dual-degree programs, and preparing the inaugural cohort of English-speaking journalists.

In summary, the celebration of Radio Algérie Internationale’s 18th anniversary not only marked an important milestone in its history but also served as a platform to discuss the evolving role of media in the face of digital challenges. The newly formed partnership with the University of Algiers 3 represents a commitment to fostering educational and professional development in the field of media, thus enriching the narrative surrounding Algeria on a global scale.
