les ministres de l’Intérieur soulignent leur volonté commune de contrer les phénomènes négatifs dans les zones frontalières

On Wednesday in Algiers, the Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Territory Management of Algeria, Brahim Merad, and his Tunisian counterpart, Khaled Nouri, expressed their joint commitment to combat negative phenomena along their shared borders, such as smuggling and illegal migration. Their statements followed a meeting that included senior security officials from both countries.

Merad emphasized the significance of the bilateral meeting, noting that it was essential for coordinating efforts to address pressing security issues. He highlighted that future meetings are planned to evaluate progress in combating organized crime, terrorism, and smuggling, which pose threats to both nations.

In discussing cross-border development, Merad mentioned the establishment of commissions aimed at combatting smuggling and the overall development of these areas. He stressed that the future of both nations is intertwined, citing the security of Algeria as linked to that of Tunisia.

Nouri detailed several topics discussed, including the adverse economic impact of smuggling, ways to combat this issue, and the importance of cooperation. The ministers also explored timely information exchange, underscoring the need for collaborative efforts to tackle illegal migration, drug trafficking, and further development in border regions.

This meeting served as a crucial platform for evaluating the current state of bilateral cooperation, particularly in security coordination and joint measures to secure borders against organized crime, including illegal migration and smuggling. Discussions also focused on border region development in light of the bilateral commission’s work aimed at promoting growth in these areas, including the recommendations derived from a follow-up meeting held earlier in January in Tabarka, Tunisia.
