mobilisation de 4.200 agents d’hygiène et de 390 camions pour l’Aïd El-Adha
Summary of NETCOM’s Efforts for Cleanliness During Aïd El-Adha
ALGER – The Establissement de nettoiement de la wilaya d’Alger (NETCOM) has taken significant measures to maintain cleanliness in the capital during Aïd El-Adha. According to Nassima Yakoubi, the communication and development director at NETCOM, the initiative involves mobilizing 4,200 hygiene agents and 390 trucks across the 26 municipalities in its jurisdiction to effectively manage the increase in waste typically seen during this festive period.
Given that Aïd El-Adha often leads to a substantial rise in waste, especially organic waste from sacrificial animals, NETCOM has implemented a specialized program to tackle these challenges. Yakoubi noted that organic waste can quickly spoil and produce unpleasant odors, particularly during hot weather. To mitigate this, nearly 3,900 bins have been distributed, including 1,000 specifically for the disposal of sheep skins.
The cleanup operation is structured in three phases:
-
Pre-Aïd Preparations: This phase focuses on removing litter and cleaning the streets around mosques and cemeteries before the festival.
-
During Aïd: Enhanced waste collection operations are in place, especially for the waste generated from sacrifices, to ensure cleanliness throughout the three days of Aïd.
- Post-Aïd Cleanup: Efforts will continue to collect waste and clean streets after the festive season ends.
Yakoubi called upon citizens to assist in maintaining cleanliness by properly disposing of organic waste in sealed bags and avoiding contamination of sheep skins set aside for further processing.
Last year, NETCOM managed to collect approximately 5,300 tons of waste during Aïd El-Adha. However, this year, they anticipate a substantial increase, projecting a total collection of around 9,000 tons.
Conclusion
NETCOM’s proactive approach highlights the importance of community involvement and organized efforts in maintaining public cleanliness, especially during significant cultural events like Aïd El-Adha.
