On a recent occasion in Algiers, the Algerian Minister for Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Laïd Rebiga, welcomed a delegation of fighters who had trained in aviation in the People’s Republic of China during Algeria’s liberation war. This gathering was also attended by the Chinese ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli, emphasizing the significance of their achievements and fostering international relations.
The meeting celebrated the fighters’ commitment and training, which took place in various Chinese engineering and aeronautics institutes, including an aviation school in Shijiazhuang. This visit follows an earlier trip to China in May, aimed at reconnecting with their Chinese counterparts and friends from the time of their training.
Rebiga highlighted this initiative as part of the agreement established between the Algerian Ministry of Mujahideen and the Chinese Ministry of Veterans Affairs in July 2023, during President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s visit to China. This partnership aims to strengthen bilateral ties, acknowledging China’s role as the first non-Arab nation to recognize the Provisional Government of the Algerian Republic (GPRA).
During the meeting, the former fighters expressed deep gratitude for having returned to China, celebrating the opportunity to revisit their training institutions where they had forged bonds over sixty years ago. This emotional reconnection with their history reflects Algeria’s ongoing efforts to honor its heroes and maintain a positive relationship with China.
