Summary of Minister Mberob’s Visit to Algeria
During a recent visit to Algeria, Cameroon’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Gabriel Mberob, praised the significant advancements in Algeria’s agricultural sector, emphasizing the integration of modern technologies in farming and irrigation practices.
On Tuesday, in Blida, Mberob highlighted that Algeria has made notable progress in modernizing its agricultural sector through the application of contemporary technologies. He made these remarks while touring the "Vitroplant" nursery in Beni Tamou, which specializes in producing grafts and fruit trees, as part of his three-day work visit aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation between Cameroon and Algeria.
Mberob stated that agricultural development is crucial for ensuring food security, requiring the use of modern technologies to achieve a contemporary agricultural landscape. He commended the significant strides Algeria has made in this domain, showcasing the innovations and expertise present within the country.
The Minister also expressed admiration for the skills and expertise of the Algerian team overseeing the Vitroplant nursery, which has the capacity to produce 25 million fruit tree plants annually, including various forest species such as the argan tree. He indicated Cameroon’s interest in leveraging Algeria’s experiences in integrating modern technologies into agricultural development, including equipment, technical expertise, and specialized human resources.
The Vitroplant nursery is the result of Algerian-Italian collaboration and currently provides the domestic market with a variety of fruit tree plants. Recently, it began exporting its products, marking a significant step in diversifying Algeria’s agricultural output.
In conjunction with his visit, Minister Mberob signed a cooperative agreement with Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Youcef Cherfa. This agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in various agricultural domains and facilitate knowledge exchange between the two nations.
