l’Algérie réaffirme son attachement à la solidarité internationale en matière de santé
Summary of Algeria’s Participation at the 78th World Health Assembly
Algeria has reiterated its commitment to international solidarity in health and its desire to contribute towards building a fairer, more effective, and sustainable global healthcare system. This declaration came during the country’s participation at the 78th World Health Assembly held at the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, as noted in a statement from the National Health Security Agency (ANSS).
A high-level delegation represents Algeria at the event, comprising members from Algeria’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva alongside representatives from the Ministry of Health and ANSS. The Algerian delegation actively engaged in discussions on several strategic health issues, particularly focusing on a global agreement aimed at pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, as well as multilateral policies addressing non-communicable diseases.
Furthermore, Algeria has taken a vocal stance in defending the Palestinian people’s right to health. Through persistent efforts from its Permanent Mission, the country played a pivotal role in securing a resolution that calls for the inclusion of the State of Palestine in the International Health Regulations (2005). This move highlights Algeria’s longstanding support for just causes in international forums, notwithstanding various attempts to obstruct their efforts.
The assembly, which continues until May 27, will also address critical global health challenges such as eradicating poliomyelitis and malaria, enhancing mental health promotion, combating diabetes, addressing cervical cancer, advancing digital health, ensuring universal health coverage (UHC), and evaluating the health impacts of climate change, pollution, and waste.
In conclusion, Algeria’s involvement in the World Health Assembly underscores its commitment to global health solidarity and advocacy for vulnerable populations, particularly in relation to the Palestinian health rights. The upcoming discussions will further elaborate on key strategies and policies aimed at addressing global health issues in the current landscape.
