Summary of the 7th Edition of the Algerian Products Fair in Mauritania
The 7th edition of the Algerian Products Fair launched in Nouakchott on Thursday, aiming to strengthen commercial ties between Algeria and Mauritania and to explore new bilateral partnership opportunities. The opening ceremony was led by Tayeb Zitouni, Algeria’s Minister of Interior Commerce and Market Regulation, alongside Mauritania’s Minister of Commerce and Tourism, Zeinebou Ahmednah, and other dignitaries, including the Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency.
In his speech, Minister Zitouni emphasized the depth of the historical relationship between Algeria and Mauritania, identifying the fair as a vital platform for enhancing brotherly ties and advancing economic collaboration. He pointed out a notable uptick in Algerian exports to Mauritania, which now constitute 30% of Mauritania’s external trade. This trend reflects a commitment to sustainability in economic relations based on a win-win principle.
Zitouni highlighted the critical role of the Tindouf-Zouerate road, which Algeria is constructing, spanning 850 km at a cost of nearly $1 billion. This infrastructure project symbolizes Algeria’s determination to bolster its connection with Mauritania. Furthermore, the establishment of a free trade zone between the two nations, inaugurated last year, tangibly illustrates their mutual intent to fortify economic relations.
The fair expanded this year, featuring 219 exhibitors from various sectors, including construction, public works, energy, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, electronics, mechanics, metallurgy, and services. The Mauritanian minister accentuated the qualitative leap in relations, attributing this progress to the wise leadership of both countries’ presidents.
Ahmednah described the fair as more than just a commercial showcase; it serves as a strategic economic bridge that enhances synergy between the two nations’ business sectors and fosters promising investment opportunities. She urged the private sector to actively build effective cooperation frameworks and transition toward a resilient, integrated economy.
She also affirmed Mauritania’s readiness to eliminate barriers and create a favorable investment climate, inviting Algerian entrepreneurs to explore opportunities, particularly in vital sectors like agriculture, energy, and services. This collaborative spirit underscores a new chapter in economic relations, paving the way for shared growth and prosperity between Algeria and Mauritania.
