Summary of Meeting Between Algerian Minister and Axian Group
On Wednesday, Mohamed Arkab, Algeria’s Minister of State in charge of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, met with a delegation from the Axian Group, led by CEO Hassanein Hiridjee. The discussions focused on investment opportunities in Algeria, particularly in the energy sector, as part of a broader effort to enhance cooperation with economic partners interested in contributing to Algeria’s energy landscape.
The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, aimed to bolster collaboration in renewable energy. Arkab provided an overview of Algeria’s energy transition, noting significant advancements in electricity production infrastructure, which has resulted in a national electricity coverage rate of 99%. This achievement underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable energy access and improving essential services for the entire population.
Hiridjee highlighted Axian Group’s ongoing projects across various African countries, emphasizing initiatives related to energy production, transport, distribution, and storage. The focus is particularly on small and medium solar stations, aimed at supplying clean energy to remote villages, thereby promoting energy integration and sustainable local development.
Hiridjee expressed Axian’s keen interest in investing in Algeria and its readiness to develop significant renewable energy projects, aligning with Algeria’s national strategy to diversify energy sources and prioritize clean energy as a strategic option for the future.
Founded in 2003 in Madagascar, Axian operates in multiple sectors including energy, telecommunications, digital finance, and education, with a strong focus on digital transformation and energy transition initiatives.
