Summary of ANP Anti-Terrorism and Organized Crime Operations (May 15-20, 2025)
Between May 15 and 20, 2025, the Algerian National People’s Army (ANP) conducted a series of noteworthy operations across the nation aimed at combating terrorism and organized crime. During this period, three terrorists were killed in Khenchela and Ain Defla, while ten individuals supporting terrorist groups were arrested.
The ANP reported that these operations showcased the high level of professionalism and constant vigilance of the military forces. Notably, in Khenchela and Ain Defla, the army successfully neutralized three terrorists and seized various arms, including four Kalashnikov assault rifles and a Simonov pistol, along with ammunition and other equipment. Additionally, the ANP’s actions resulted in the capture of ten individuals associated with terrorist networks throughout the country.
In terms of combating organized crime, particularly drug trafficking, the ANP’s combined detachments intercepted 53 drug traffickers. They thwarted attempts to smuggle 240 kilograms of cannabis resin from the Moroccan border and seized significant quantities of cocaine (30.40 kilograms) and nearly 176,000 psychotropic pills during various operations across military regions.
Furthermore, in the southern regions of Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, In Salah, In Guezzam, and Djanet, the ANP apprehended 139 individuals and confiscated numerous vehicles, including 335 generators and various tools related to illicit gold mining. Additionally, 20 more individuals were arrested, and the army seized several firearms, including Kalashnikov rifles and shotguns, alongside 4,160 liters of fuel during different maneuvers.
On the maritime front, the coast guard successfully disrupted several attempts at illegal immigration, rescuing 65 individuals from makeshift boats, while 299 undocumented immigrants of various nationalities were detained across the country.
These operations highlight the proactive stance taken by the ANP in maintaining national security and combating the multifaceted threats of terrorism and organized crime.
