Stellantis Strengthens Local Partnerships in Algeria

On Wednesday, Stellantis El Djazaïr announced the signing of four new letters of intent with local suppliers to provide automotive parts and components for its Fiat plant in Tafraoui, Oran. This initiative aims to bolster the local automotive industry in Algeria and comes during the 2nd edition of the International Supplier Convention, organized by Stellantis on May 20-21 in Oran.

The agreements were signed in the presence of key figures, including Samir Cherfan, the Director of Operations for Stellantis Middle East and Africa, Oran Governor Samir Chibani, Italian Ambassador to Algeria Alberto Cutillo, and Omar Rekkache, General Director of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI).

Supplier Partnerships

The agreements revolve around four major local suppliers: Martur for automotive seating, Purem for exhaust systems, Silverton for speakers, and Sigit-ACS for plastic parts. With these new partnerships, Stellantis now counts a total of 12 local suppliers for its Tafraoui facility.

Stellantis emphasizes its goal of nurturing a network of local suppliers capable of supplying over 30% of the components used in vehicles produced at the Tafraoui plant. This effort aims to establish the first integrated automotive ecosystem in Algeria.

International Supplier Convention

The recent convention brought together over 200 participants, including more than 75 automotive companies and both national and international suppliers. The event provided a platform for discussions and workshops led by representatives from Stellantis and various Algerian authorities focused on the development of the automotive sector.

Attendees were also given the opportunity to tour the Tafraoui plant to understand the industrial aspirations of Stellantis in Algeria.

Commitment to Local Investing

Omar Rekkache expressed optimism regarding the new subcontracting agreements, describing them as a strategic move toward building robust and sustainable partnerships between automotive manufacturers and local suppliers. He noted the growing interest from numerous investors and industrial companies looking to venture into spare parts manufacturing and other automotive-related components. Rekkache reaffirmed AAPI’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for investors and project leaders in this critical sector.

This initiative signifies not only an investment in local partnerships but also a broader aspiration to support the growth of Algeria’s automotive industry, which is positioned for potential expansion in a market that remains underdeveloped relative to global standards.

By fostering local collaboration and investment, Stellantis aims to strengthen the automotive supply chain within Algeria, thereby enhancing the overall competitiveness and sustainability of the local industry.
